Hay.

Title says it all really, the time has come and I must start thinking about which universitty I want to attend.
After going to a few open days I seem to find that those that have supported vi people in the past don't seem that appealing in other factors whilst those that seemed a bit vague about support had much more intheusastic subject staff.
I'm just interested in where everyone whent and how they found it as a hole - not just how they were supported.
Chears, BEN.

Ben

It very much depends on the subject you want to study as to where you'll get the best experience.

I went to Brookes, and found the VI support really good over all, not so good in the specific subject. Brookes are excellent with giving you help if you over spend your DSA, and are really good at staying on top of lecturers to get you your materials on time. No uni will be perfect, and you'll have to be prepared to make some noise to get whet you're entitled to, but, on the whole, Brookes seem better than most.

The uni's in Oxford propper, meaning good public transport links.

Thanks for the responce. I like you still seem to be finding that every universitty either fails at the subjects or support. I'm not so fussed about the support as I hope that after a bit of shouting that'll come, but it does seem to be hard to find a uni that teaches computer science well and that isn't dreadfully vague about the hole being blind thing.

Bear in mind that they might never have had a blind student before. If they admit this, and say that they're happy to work with you to overcome challenges, chances are they'll be decent enough. It won't be easy... It hasn't been for anyone I know. But it's doable. Do me a favour? Tell me what the best unis are to study computer science? I'm in the middle of considering whether I want this for a second degree, but haven't done the league tables research yet.

Thanks

Hi,
Swansea uni has got a resources centre on campus that provides braille and stuff in electronic format or dasy format, and they'll also get on to the lecturers if they don't provide you with the handouts you need. But I understand your concerns about the course. From what I've heard, Swansea's computer science is pritty good academically, it's certainly better than some other departments there anyway. Mobility is available when you need it too at Swansea. If you're going to a university where the support isn't great, I'd recommend you get Kurzweil if you haven't already got it, least then you can scan books and handouts yourself without having to worry about lecturers not providing you with stuff in electronic format, or not being able to get stuff in braille when you need it.
Hope that helps, Tara.

I also at the university of Hull, scarborough campus. They are very good with supporting blind and other dissabled children. I know they have cources to do with computers but i am not sure if they have exactly what you want. I personally studied music technology there. But you could ask them.
